Leaders & Junior Leaders

Junior Leaders

Elm Park Pool’s Junior Leaders program is for children aged 8-12 years old who love to be at the pool and want to make friends while at the same time help our members and staff. The program is run by two Junior Leaders coaches from our Lifeguard team, who host meetings with all Junior Leaders 2x per week (see weekly schedule). Junior Leaders will have access to fun activities and games planned just for them such as painting/coloring, decorating the pool, sports, games in the park and much more!  They’ll also be taught how to plan and host fundraisers such as bake sales, with all proceeds going towards a fun activity for the entire Junior Leaders team at the end of the summer, such as a day at ISaute or Skytag. The more money they raise, the more options they have!

The goal of the program is to teach young kids the importance of being involved in their communities, while also helping them develop important life skills such as responsibility and independence. At the same time, they’ll have the chance to make new friends their age and have lots of fun! In addition, this program helps prepare kids for the Leaders program.

Leaders

Elm Park Pool’s Leaders program is for members aged 13-17 looking to develop leadership skills, form close friendships and give back to the community. The program is run by two Leaders coaches from our Lifeguard team, who host meetings with the Leaders 2x per week (see weekly schedule). The goal of the program is to prepare kids for their first jobs while having fun and creating long lasting memories. Leaders will be taught and trusted to work in teams to run important aspects of the community pool experience, such as operating our snack bar, running our entrance desk, and volunteering at competitions. Leaders will be able to build their CVs as well as fill volunteer hours, which are often required by high schools.

Another component of the program is fundraising. Leaders will learn to organize and execute their own fundraisers with support from the Leaders coaches. All proceeds go towards a fun activity for the entire Leaders team at the end of the summer, such as a day at a water park. The more money they raise, the more options they have!

In addition, this program acts as a form of apprenticeship for kids aspiring to become a lifeguard. Many outdoor pools offer some form of Leaders program and are strongly interested in hiring candidates who have participated in one of them.

Come speak to a lifeguard at the pool during the summer and give our Junior Leaders or Leaders program a try!
